Empowering Women Through Cervical Cancer Awareness in Kaikala, Hooghly

On 15th October 2022, AIM Foundation, in collaboration with Roopkatha Foundation, organized a crucial Cervical and Oral Cancer Awareness and Screening Camp in Kaikala Village, Hooghly, West Bengal. The initiative focused on women aged 28 to 60 years, aiming to spread awareness and provide early detection services—key factors in preventing and managing cervical cancer.

In partnership with Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, the screening included VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid), PAP Smear tests, and HPV DNA testing—standard procedures in identifying early signs of cervical cancer. Oral cancer screenings were also conducted as part of the comprehensive healthcare approach.

Women from eight surrounding villages—Balia, Ichapur, Kunjaban, Kaikala, Adangachhi, Kaikala Sabarpara, Jalapara, and Dighirpar—actively participated in the camp. Particularly heartening was the involvement of women from the Shobor community, who traditionally lead private lives and rarely engage with external initiatives. Their presence marked a significant step forward in building trust and encouraging inclusive healthcare access.

The success of this camp was fueled by the dedication of Roopkatha Foundation volunteers, who played a vital role in mobilizing the community and inspiring women to take charge of their health. Their persistent outreach, culturally sensitive communication, and heartfelt encouragement ensured that the women not only attended but felt supported throughout the process.

Health awareness is more than just information—it’s about access, trust, and empowerment. Through this initiative, AIM Foundation and its partners reaffirmed their commitment to women's health in rural areas, bringing critical services directly to the communities that need them most.

Together, we are not only screening for disease—we are strengthening communities and fostering a culture of preventive healthcare.
